     Flat Head Syndrome in babies became an after-effect of the Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) prevention campaign “Back to Sleep,” launched in the USA. This campaign promoted babies sleeping on their back which led to a remarkable reduction of mortality due to sudden death among infants. This intervention was generally accepted by many but required certain modifications in order to prevent deformation of the cranium (head).      Some parents who are afraid of SIDS, never put their infant in the prone position which led to an increase in the risk of Developmental Plagiocephaly (Ohman, 2013) or commonly known as Flat Head Syndrome. With the “Back to Sleep” movement, parents were advised to put their baby in the supine position and never in prone position to reduce SIDS.         I have always been the meticulous one when it comes to medicating patients. Even when I was working as a staff nurse in a tertiary hospital, I made it a point to always apply the 3 checks principle and the Rights of Drug administration. I have been trained not to do short-cuts even when others are doing it. Sometimes, it takes real guts to be "the different one" when it comes to an environment where some people around you are not doing the ideal standard procedure.          There's this 2007 movie called,  The Great Debaters that I recently watched. It's all about a   drama based on the true story of Melvin B. Tolson,  a professor at Wiley College Texas. The film is directed by Denzel Washington and stars himself as professor Tolson, Forest Whitaker as James Farmer Sr., Nate Parker as Henry Lowe, Denzel Whitaker as James Farmer Jr., Jurnee Smollett as Samantha Booke, and other casts. I think the characters were chosen for their roles because of the movie’s theme and the story involves African Americans. Each character has a distinct personality that fits their respective roles which give life and add meaning to the film.      I am amazed by the history of African Americans which speaks of freedom from slavery, justice for human rights and equality of men and women. My chances of developing breast cancer have dropped from 87 percent to under 5 percent. I can tell my children that they don't need to fear they will lose me to breast cancer…The decision to have a mastectomy was not easy. But it is one I am very happy that I made....      With the current sociopolitical and economic situation in the Philippines, nursing leadership is very challenging.
